Proxy suggestion

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)
Hello guys,

As we all know, the server is made up of players from many different places in the world, with some more concentrated in specific regions.
Among these regions are the Latinos (composed of players from South America and these are mostly Brazilians).
So that we can all have a better experience and gameplay, I would like to suggest a proxy for our region as well.
Not only me, but all players who live in Brazil have an average ping of 150 ~ 200ms and this can interfere (disadvantages) some game modes like PvP and WOE.
I would also like to take the opportunity to praise the staff, keep working to improve the server in the best possible way.

Thanks! :D

The SEA proxy didn't help much actually. Server has less lag on NA.

The SEA proxy was more of a losing gamble considering it's located in Singapore which is geographically farther than the Philippines. There has been a lot of discussion in the staff channel regarding proxies and hosting. To put it bluntly, we are in a dilemma where if we move to either west coast or east coast would impact both SEA and Latin America.

Current Hosting - Quebec

This graph shows the lowest average ping from Manila, Santiago, and Sao Paulo to the server's current location in Quebec. It shows that connections from Manila on average is significantly higher than Sao Paulo and Santiago. Assuming the network infrastructure from both cities aren't the best, the average player connecting to the server will have latency higher than the above graph.

Option 1 - Seattle/Oregon Host

If we move the server west coast, around the Seattle/Oregon area, Manila players will have a significantly improved connection quality to the server, with at best ~150ms ping. However, this move will also significantly impact both Latin America locations.

Option 2 - Virginia/Washington Host

If we move the server south, around the Washington, DC area, it will be an overall net improvement on all 3 locations, although minor. However, SEA players will see the least benefit as it only reduces their latency by ~20ms. This is the option we are leaning towards considering there is no latency trade-off for any of the 3 locations. Additionally, we will also set up an Oregon proxy as a measure to hopefully further improve SEA ping.

These are our only open options so far as OVH doesn't offer services that are in between the two locations.

Washington and Quebec wouldn't change much.

just don't put in Seattle , it would be impossible to play.

The ping is high, but we don't have a LAG,
However in a pvp for Siwtch it is a big difference with those who have smaller pings.

@Dazzu

do what you think is best for the server !!

I think that in the philippines has many "players" and you should be fix the ping for them, and then we would have more players on server.

Like @Shanx said,  do what is the best for Xivro.
I will support any decision taken to benefit everyone and make things fairer.

I'm curious what the difference is in hosting to DarkRO. I tried logging into that and it was bing bang boom I'm in. Moving there is so much smoother. And that's without a SEA proxy. Is there something stopping you from implementing the same server solution that DarkRO has?

Honestly, I'm not sure. The location is the exact same. I'm speculating that they are using a dedicated server, but with how it's been dead for years, it couldn't afford the funds to keep the hosting type. Another cause could be because of the client, since DarkRO is using an old client with no hackshield overhead, it would make sense to have a better connection quality.
